Our First High School Chapel

My favourite part of our Wednesday school schedule is that we can join together as a school for afternoon chapels. The Student Council did a great job of running some activities that got us working together and Mr. Fraser led us in a thought-provoking devotional on bringing glory to God through the way that we live. It is our prayer as staff at MSCSS that we would continue to seek the LORD in all that we do and all that we say.

"Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you."

Welcome Back MSCSS!

What an incredible first day of school we had here at MSCSS! It was a delight to see all of our returning students and to meet all of our new students. I can tell from the enthusiasm of the staff and students that it is going to be a great year.

I mentioned in class today that I will be holding a competition between my three classes to see who can get the highest percentage of comments on the blog this week. Students, parents, and siblings of students are allowed to comment (one comment per blog post this week) and the class with the highest amount of comments will win the prize of no homework over the weekend!! The competition is to encourage students and parents to get in the habit of checking the blog frequently so that this becomes a pattern throughout the school year. I want to make sure that this tool is being used to ensure student success and parent engagement. I suggested that students can make a comment about the lesson or ask a question about the homework, and likewise parents can do the same.

I look forward to communicating with you throughout the school year and sharing pictures documenting student activity in and out of the classroom.

Grade 12 English Homework:
- select a novel (from AP English list) for Literature Review #1 (we will discuss in further detail tomorrow in class)

Betrayal

Grade 9 Math Homework:
- pg. 335 #1-8, 11
- finish rough draft questions and answer key

Grade 10 English:
Today in Grade 10 English class we had "the best lesson ever" according to Mr. Nathan Fehr. I don't think it really had to do with the content (or even the teacher), but rather that we got to go outside. Regardless, the grade 10s came up with two excellent scenarios that both demonstrate betrayal. On Friday we brainstormed ideas relating to betrayal (see below), Monday the students planned their scenarios, and today we recorded the five still images (tableaus) that each group designed. This activity was used as an introduction to our Shakespeare unit on Julius Caesar. I enjoyed seeing the 'dramatic' side of the students today, and look forward to the upcoming weeks! Check out the scenarios below and see if you can tell the story of betrayal from the five images!
